Harbin Central Street

The Central Street, also known as Zhongyang Pedestrian Street or Zhongyang Avenue, is a notable landmark situated in the core of Harbin. Established in 1898 by Russian builders, the Central Street is a living testament to Harbin’s rich past and diverse culture. Spanning over 1,450 meters (nearly a mile), the Central Street claims the distinction of being Asia’s longest pedestrian street. The street originates from the southern bank of the Songhua River and is paved with cobblestones. It’s often dubbed as ‘Asia’s Premier Street’.

The Central Street is adorned with an array of vintage European-style buildings, hotels, shops, and eateries. It’s frequently lauded as Harbin’s ‘Architectural Art Gallery’, showcasing various architectural styles including eclectic, Baroque, Renaissance, and “new art”. Harbin Central Street is a public street and can be visited at any hour. Most shops and restaurants shut down at around 10:30pm each night. As the famous saying goes: “A visit to Harbin is incomplete without a visit to Central Street.”
